A lot of work gets done behind the scenes to make all our various AVRBC initiatives possible. Our social media posts might seem especially so since Social Media volunteer Lindsay Curtis is new to the AVRBC community. She’s actually been with us since January, so it’s probably time we make it official and introduce her to everyone. Lindsay has been nothing but an amazing support to the communications team. If you’ve been seeing the “^LC” signature on our social media posts, please show Lindsay some love by leaving a comment! In the meantime, let’s give her a proper introduction.
How did you join AVRBC?
I was “hired” through a job posting but I was drawn to AVRBC from my years of volunteering experience and wanting to delve back into that worlds
What made you want to stay past your initial commitment of 6 months?
I’m absolutely loving the online community that AVRBC has! The enthusiasm and support are amazing and definitely inspiring for other aspects of my life
What have you gained from this experience?
Aside from some of the technical things I have learned to better my social media skills I have learned numerous things about the volunteer manager community and the difficulties of the job. There are some many different facets to your jobs that don’t apply to normal manager positions and I want to be able to help with them in anyway that I can
What part of social media interests you?
I love what social media has to offer to all communities. The ability to communicate with people around the world opens up so many opportunities to learn and grown professionally and personally and to know, no matter how you best interact with the world, you are not alone in your struggles.
What do you like to do for fun?
I love to run and read and try new beers (with nachos preferably!) but I spend most of my free time working on social media accounts. My two best friends and I started a website, Whale Tales (whale-tales.org) a little over three years ago as a living library of cetacean (whales, dolphins and porpoises) stories where anyone can share and read stories and that has kind of taken over my life in the best way! I am continuously blown away by the support we receive from friends and family and from followers all over the world!
What’s a personal goal for 2018?
Continuing to work on my various social media platforms and grown and learn the best I can. I cannot begin to share how much I’ve learnt in the last year and it is still so fascinating to me-I can’t wait to learn more! On a more personal note I would love to hit 800km of running in the year-I’m almost at 700 for 2017 and I want to keep climbing!
Anything else you want to share?
As I said before I am loving the engagement on our social media and would love to hear more from AVRBC members about what they are looking for from our posts? More articles for learning purposes? More posts focused on engagement and sharing (eg: #avrbcgroupthink), more photos of fun past events? I want to make our accounts great for you to interact with so let me know!
